Oh, you'll have a great time at The Old Ship Saloon.  But don't take our word for it.  Here's what one expert had to say. . .

The Same Old Ship.
Reviewed by RBCowley, April 14, 2000

Bill Duffy's former Bricks Bar and Grill has undergone an earthquake retrofit, a remodel, reorganization and a name change, but otherwise it's still the same Old Ship. In fact, that's what it's called today, The Old Ship Saloon, which is what it was called when it was first opened in the late 19th Century. Originally it was housed in the hulk of a landlocked ship, the Arkansas, which had been abandoned by the 49ers (the gold guys, not the football guys). After the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, the Old Ship was replaced by a spanking new, modern brick building on Pacific St. at Battery. The bar on the ground floor went through several owners since the Earthquake. As Bricks Bar and Grill it became a local fixture as a popular lunch spot and after work watering hole. Owner Bill Duffy has recently instituted a government mandated earthquake retrofit, and completely remodeled the bar, including modernizing the kitchen and bringing the restrooms up to date. Today, The Old Ship Saloon is as popular as ever, with a new, up-to-date menu of tasty, well-served food and a friendly, open bar staffed by knowledgeable, courteous waitpersons (I HATE that word!) and bartenders. It used to be said about Bricks that it was a 'Cheers' bar, a place where 'everybody knows your name.' Well, it's still the same Old Ship. RB Cowley
